Top 5 ways to stay Hydrated for top performance! Hydration is probably the most important thing when it comes to overall health and sports performance. Today I’m going to share with you the top 5 ways I stay hydrated, happy and healthy! 1. DRINK WATER! Seriously, I know it’s pretty much a no brainer and to the point but when I started my own weight loss and fitness journey I simply started carrying my Shakeology shaker cup full of water everywhere I went , and I still have this habit. I drink from it and refill it multiple times a day. One of the best rules of thumb is to be consuming at least half your body weight in ounces of water per day. SO DRINK UP! 2. ELECTROLYTES – No I’m not talking Gatorade or one of those other sugar packed sports drinks, Instead go for some natural coconut water which is excellent, or you can even make your own hommade electrolyte sports drink! – ie 4 cups water 1/2 teaspoon pink Hymilayan salt 1/4 cup raw honey 1/4 cup freshly squeezed of lemon juice 1/2 cup dark cherry juice (no added sugar) 1/2 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed if available) 3. FRUIT – After a killer workout you definitely need to refuel! My favorite go-to for this is a simple banana. It’s packed with electrolyte potassium and natural sugars to aid in recovery. 4. KEEP DRINKING – Yep I said it again, but a lot of people refrain from drinking water during their workouts. This is actually one of the most important times to be consuming the life giving nectar! About every 10 to 20 minutes during your workout, stop and drink a few ounces, around 5-10 is sufficient. Just don’t guzzle a gallon! 5. FATIGUE – I know, this one really isn’t a way to stay hydrated, but I had to include a few of the first signs that you can be aware of that will tell you if you’re getting enough H20. The first one is muscle fatigue and cramping. Be very sensitive to knowing your body and paying attention to it, it WILL tell you when something is wrong. One more way to tell where your hydration lies is by your urine! Not the best subject of a blog post but the perfect tool is the color it is before the stool. Your urine should be a pale yellow to almost clear color. It may be difficult in some cases but try to see what color it is before it’s diluted into the toilet water. There are several different reasons your urine can become darker in color but again, it’s one more thing to pay attention to for warning signs of dehydration.
