Why the scale is a BIG, FAT LIAR!

Your biggest enemy in achieving your health and fitness goals doesn’t live in your refrigerator! It’s not your secret cookie stash, It doesn’t live anywhere in your kitchen at all. For most people the #1 source of discouragement and frustration probably lives in your bathroom. I affectionately call mine the “ The Lying Progress Killer.” Its name …

YOUR SCALE!!!

Yep, that ‘tool’ that is supposed to gauge your weight loss success actually does more harm than good! I know what you are thinking….

Andy has lost his mind!

Hear me out for a second and I will explain. You decide you are ready to take action and finally do something about your growing waist line.

Let’s say you pick a program like P90X, TURBO FIRE or INSANITY. You are using your Shakeology and following the meal plan to a tee. Week 1 zooms by, you feel great, and your confidence is growing because you know your actions are on point and that they will be rewarded by results.

Because everyone loves to be applauded for hard work, you turn to your good friend, The Scale. “Surely, he will reward my hard work with a favorable report.” What better way to measure progress than watching a countable, hard fact number decrease? That IS the goal after all right? So you step up on your trusty friend, anxious for the praise your feel you deserve.

Then without warning, your friend betrays you with an ego-busting punch to the face. He shows you ZERO weight loss, or even worse, a weight GAIN!!

How is this possible??? You are doing the workouts, your nutrition is spot on, and you deserve to see measureable results dammit! …RIGHT? Then doubt creeps in. “This doesn’t work. I do everything right, but I’m not seeing results. I guess I’m just not meant to lose weight, It’s pointless, I might as well give up!” ….. Sound familiar?

I tell my clients and the people on my team to weigh themselves before they start a program, and then hide the scale. Or better yet – get it out of the house!

SERIOUSLY!

I also stress the importance of taking those unpopular ‘before’ photos and measurements.

NOBODY likes doing them. I mean, who really wants to stand half naked in front of a camera and take a picture? You’ve already decided to start a program because you weren’t happy with how you looked or felt, isn’t that enough? No! Mwahahaha… it’s not!

They are GOODBYE photos! Plus you could win some big money in the Beachbody Challenge with them too!

At the end of the day, true progress is measured through loss of INCHES and decreased BODY FAT percentage, NOT WEIGHT! Your weight can fluctuate daily based on muscle gain, sodium intake, water retention, etc. Why subject yourself to the mental agony of looking at a number daily that isn’t a TRUE barometer of the REAL progress you are making?

Everyone is so obsessed with weight – with the actual number. It’s a label they attach to themselves so they can judge how they are doing.

The scale will never tell you how much muscle you have gained, how much fat you’ve lost, how much water you’re carrying, how much energy you’ve exhausted, how amazing you are, how much potential you posses, how loved you are, or how every second and drop of sweat WORTHY you are for commiting to a lifestyle change! It’s only a number!

But when you are in your second month of Turbo Fire and your friend tells you how amazing your butt looks in your new jeans, do you think they care what the scale says? All they know is you are rocking those new jeans, and they want to get a hold of whatever it is you are doing. (Even though in many cases you may have only fluctuated 2 or 3 pounds since you started.)

So pick your program, weigh yourself ONCE, take your before pics and measurements, work closely with a Coach that will speak encouragement into you, and get ready to go shopping for those new jeans!

Let’s work together to shred that first 5 pounds today!

With ya till the end! – Coach Andy
